在IBM xSeries 220安裝Ubuntu 安裝的問題

最近嘗試在IBM xSeries 220電腦上安裝Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Desktop版, 結果不能正常開機。改換Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Alternative CD 或 Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Server的安裝CD都不能正常開機讀取, 而這個問題在另外一種電腦則可以順利開機並且安裝! 真是奇怪...

我找出之前的版本, Ubuntu 7.04 Desktop也是一樣, 只有Ubuntu 6.06 LTS Desktop可以順利開機並且安裝。安裝完後, 另一個問題: update-manager 因為zh_TW語系檔案的問題, 無法開啟。

用"ubuntu update-manager crash"拜一拜Google大神, 找到問題之所在與解決方法:
$ export LANAUAGE="en_US"
$ update-manager -d
就可以進行作業系統升級的動作, 準備將 Ubuntu 由 6.06 升級至 8.04 囉!

Problem about installing Ubuntu on IBM xSeries 220

For those who failed to install Ubuntu 8.04 LTS or 7.10 to IBM xSeries 220 Server from CDs from totally complete download ISO images, here is my experience. My situation is that Ubuntu 8.04 LTS and 7.10 can not boot successfully, but Ubuntu 6.06 can. So, I first install Ubuntu 6.06 to the xSeries 220. And then, I follow the procedure of "Upgrade from 6.06 LTS to 8.04 LTSin Upgrading your existing Ubuntu installation". It took me about 3~4 hours to complete installation and upgrade to Ubuntu 8.04.
